Daniel Webster (January 18, 1782 – October 24, 1852) was an American lawyer and statesman who represented New Hampshire and Massachusetts in the U.S. Congress and served as the U.S. Secretary of State under Presidents William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, and Millard Fillmore. Born in Middletown, Conn., 3 Sept. 1787. Graduated from Yale College in 1804; admitted to the bar in 1807. Practiced law in Jefferson and Oneida counties, New York. Served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1823-1831; presiding judge of the Oneida county court of common pleas, 1825-1829. Died in New Haven, Conn., 29 July 1837.
